For major appliances like electronic equipment, make sure to record their sales numbers, purchasing date, price and dealer’s name etc.
Now read some tips for how you can complete this task of taking inventory and make proper inventory list. Follow the tips shared below:
Ask your Partner to be with You
Make sure to have a companion for taking home inventory who will help you in taking photos and video record of all your possessions. It will be good to send other family members on a picnic and have the house free for you. Start from one room and don’t forget to go through your home’s yard and garage to note down important items there.
Cover Big Items First
First of all cover big items like furniture in all rooms then come to valuable items like jewelry, art work collections. Make sure that you have insured all big items separately.
Take Pictures of Items
Take pictures of all items from different angles and record important notes on the back of each picture like from where you bought each item and how much you paid for each. Don’t forget to include information about things that are smaller and are in drawers.
Record all Possessions in Videotape
Record all your possessions in videotape. For this, walk through your house or apartment making video of all possessions and record contents about all items.
Make Copies of List, Photos and Videotape
Once you complete the process of stock taking, you are advised to store your inventory record in more than one copies so make sure to make several copies of home inventory list, inventory pictures and videotape and store them at different places for instance in your office, in your mailbox, in your locker, with your friend etc. It will ensure you to have a copy of all your inventory records any time. Another very important advice for you is to update your inventory lists after every six months.
